Silence interrupted

Radio 4BC has apologised after an automated system overrode the Remembrance Day minute's silence at 11 o'clock today. Station manager David McDonald offered his "deepest heartfelt apology" on the station's website:

"A directive has now been issued that the procedure to observe the minute silence will never again be allowed to be computer operated and instead, will be manually overridden on ALL future occasions."

Announcer Michael Smith has reportedly called on the person responsible to resign.

I couldn't believe my ears

I couldn't believe my ears when I heard "The Streets of Your Town" on 4BC just before the news instead of the minute's silence.

I was even more shocked five minutes later when I heard a very angry Greg Cary who seemed to be in some sort of disbelief. Unlike his manager, Greg did not blame 'a system', he blamed an actual worker but did not name names. He also stated that this is the second time in three years of Rememberance Days' that this 'breakdown' has occurred.

For days Michael Smith has been perusing Anna Bligh about the disgrace of parliament sitting last year for Rememberance Day and how terrible it was that the minute of silence was late. I bet Michael now feels a tad embarrassed too.
