In Egypt, I was disturbed to see that beverage cans still have detachable pull-tabs rather than the stay-on tabs that (according to Wikipedia) have been common in the Western world since the 1980s. The result is a lot of litter and a potential danger to consumers. Why would multinationals like Coca-Cola persist with this old technology? Presumably because they apply different standards in different countries - i.e. if they can get away with it, they will.
